Why should I avoid a DSG gearbox?
I am looking to buy a automatic small/medium size car about two-three years old
I have been told to avoid the ones with the DSG gearbox (why?) and stick to a conventional auto with torque converter. Can you recommend a mainly reliable car for me please?

Because there are questions over the long term reliability of DSGs, because VAG refuses to warrant them in Europe for the five years it has been forced to in China, Russia and the USA, and because they can hesitate dangerously when emerging from side roads. Ford's Powershift works much better. Or a conventional four-speed torque converter auto in a KIA or a Hyundai.
