Is this advice about a diesel particulate filter correct?

A Mercedes salesman has told me that a Mercedes diesel is OK for short distance driving - but reports in the press say that a diesel engine is not good for short distances. Any advice please?

Get him to make it a term of your purchase contract that you will not have any DPF trouble for 5 years.
