Why are some over-50s insurance policies more expensive than normal policies?
People over 50 should be very careful when dealing with insurance companies who purport to offer a special service to them. My wife, with an impeccable driving record, recently went to renew her insurance on her tiny (but excellent) Toyota Aygo. She obtained quotations from four companies who advertised particularly for the over 50s. They were RIAS, Saga, Age UK and Castle. Their quotes were £900, £590, £950 and £688. The quote from Sainsbury's, which does not profess to specially serve the over 50s, was £366 for a higher spec policy. I can easily understand many people using the companies who "serve" the over 50s, because they believe they are getting a better deal because of their age. Buyer beware.
