Was it necessary to test drive my car during a routine tyre inspection?
My local Porsche dealer rang me to offer a free tyre inspection on my seven-year-old 997. They collected and delivered the car for what is an approximate 12-mile round trip. No mileage was noted at collection but a quarter of a tank of fuel is missing and although I didn't note the mileage precisely I know it has covered much more than 12 miles. Are they allowed to add miles to the car when the vehicle was taken in for an inspection only? No work was required. I would have thought if any assessment on the road was required that this should be achievable on the delivery run?

You admit that you have no proof, so forget it. There's nothing you can do except take your custom elsewhere the next time. On the other hand, if the car has incurred an ANPR parking or speeding ticket then you will have evidence. So watch what comes through your letterbox and then be prepared to take Small Claims track action against the dealer for your quantified loss.
