I'd like to recommend the Honda Civic Type S for people looking for enough space for golf clubs.

I was very interested to read that SA from Chard has also had problems with golf clubs in small cars. I have had a Honda Civic Type S (old shape) for nearly five years now. When I bought it secondhand back in 2007 it was the only small car I could find into which you could get a set of clubs and a trolley without putting the seats down. Unfortunately it still is, as recently I looked for a replacement and, without buying a considerably bigger car, was unable to find anything. So for now I am keeping the old Civic and have just put new 16-inch Dotz wheels and Toyo C1S tyres all round. These make the ride and road noise much better than the standard 17-inch. Perhaps SA might consider getting a good secondhand Type S. I know they are old technology, but it goes like the wind and returns 42-45mpg on a run. What more do you want?

I agree, the old 160PS 2.0-litre Civic Type S is a hidden gem, but it came on three different wheel and tyre sizes. Originally 195/65 R15 Michelin Primacy tyres that gave a good combination of ride, quietness and handling. The facelift for 2004 model year included 16-inch wheels with 205/55 R16 tyres and the option of 17-inch wheels with 225/45 R17s. A Golf Mk VI has indentations either side of the trunk behind the rear wheel arches for clubs. But your Type S is still probably a better car.
