Why is my son's insurance company cutting his no-claims bonus after claiming for hail damage?
My son fell victim to the freak hailstones yesterday that caused much damage to the roof and bonnet of his car. Many of his friends came off even worse with cracked windscreens and light cluster damage. On phoning his insurance company he was advised that he will have to pay his £150 excess and also lose two years' no-claims bonus. This seems harsh. Do you have a view?

Unfortunately, that is how insurance is. You make a claim. You lose no claims discount. The alternative would be to leave everyone's NCDs intact and increase everyone's insurance premiums to pay for it. Nothing is for nothing.
