Why did Churchill attempt to increase my premium by over £100 after a minor speeding conviction?

I received my quote from Churchill Insurance for my 56 plate Fiesta Ghia at £230.02, rang them to include my recent (6/9/2012) SP30 in a revised quote and they came back to me with a figure of £339.20. If I had stayed with Churchill that would mean over the three following years my SP30 would have cost me at least an extra £327.54. You will be glad to hear I have now taken your recommendation and have insured the Fiesta with LV at £267.84 including breakdown cover with Britannia Breakdown (I would welcome any info you have on this company).

LV is a mutual. Churchill and Direct Line are owned by Private Equity Investors. Britannia Rescue comes highly recommended for European rescue services. Generally, insurers offering the lowest annual basic premiums apply the highest penalties for speeding convictions.
