Need a car that can carry my golf clubs

I have an 2005 Rover 45 hatchback, which is nearing time for replacement. It has served me well, particularly because it is able to accommodate an electric trolley and golf clubs transversely across the boot. With virtually all other similar cars this is not possible, without either removing the longer clubs from the bag, or laying down the rear seats.

Typically, a bag of clubs measures about 15 inches in diameter by 48 inches long. Are there any other medium-size hatchbacks made with golfers in mind, like the Rover was?

The Volkswagen MkVI Golf. It has indentations behind the rear wheelarches specifically for the purpose of taking golf clubs laid horizontally.

Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
