Is it worth using a diesel additive in my Volkswagen Passat?

I drive a 2007 Volkswagen Passat 2.0TDi 140 SE saloon. Could you please advise me if using Millers Diesel Power ECO MAX fuel additive is worth the expense? I normally fill up with Shell diesel but I do often tow a caravan in France, where we use their supermarket fuels when convenient.

It’s good stuff but why not use Shell V-Power, because then you don't have to add any additives because the fuel already has them. It is particularly good for lubricity.
