Which twin-cab pickup to replace our ageing Mercedes-Benz?
We have a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E270 showing 150k miles, which is now developing some issues. We have spent a lot this year on a new clutch, ball joints etc. Though it is used almost exclusively for business, it is our personal vehicle and the main problem is that the tax allowance still does not cover costs. So we are looking at replacing it with a twin-cab pick up, Ford or Nissan, funded by our business. Can you tell me please, where we can dispose of the Mercedes with no hassle or comebacks? Is the Nissan better than the Ford? Or maybe a Toyota?

There are four new twin-cabs arriving next few months, firstly the Ford Ranger / Mazda BT50 and new Isuzu D-Max / Chevrolet Colorado. They are bigger than their predecessors and at 17-feet 6-inches long, the new Ranger is biggest of the lot. The Nissan Navara with 231PS 3.0 V6 diesel and 5-speed automatic transmission is expensive at £30,000 plus VAT. If buying used, I’d go for the current shape Isuzu Rodeo 2.5 or 3.0 I-TEQ 5-speed manual. That truck has quite a crude chassis, but by far the nicest drivetrain as well as a sweet, amiable engine and an excellent gearchange. It can do up to about 36mpg. Our 2WD 2.5s do over 40mpg, but you can't get 2WD Rodeos or Colorados in the UK.
