I read with interest the letter from CH regarding the in-car video cameras. I have had one in my car for the last five months, prompted by a couple of close calls with cars stopping very suddenly in front of me and for no apparent reason. Whilst it has the advantage of recording all to the front, the biggest effect I have noticed is on my driving style. Since using the video, I have become much more aware of safety while driving. Whereas I used to get a little close to the car in front I now leave much more space between us, am more careful on the motorway, watch my speed and road position etc. Yes, I know that we should all drive carefully, but we do get some bad habits and with the video I can not only view how I am driving but I'm also aware that others could do so. The unit I have is quite small, about the size of a cigarette packet, can be used at night, and loop records to SD card. Yes it would be good if insurance companies would recognise them.
