How can I stop people speeding through my village?
The majority of drivers through my village exceed the 30mph speed limit, some by a big margin. Occasionally the police position a temporary radar speed trap that has no real impact on the problem but most of the villagers, myself included, are tired of this antisocial and potentially dangerous behaviour and, whilst we don't want speed bumps, would be glad of any suggestions as to what we can do.

I suggest what they do in some French, Swiss and Austrian villages - artificial chamfered kerb chicanes at the beginning and end of the village, coupled with some one-way chicanes through the village. Or the Spanish system of speed-sensitive traffic lights with cameras on the reds. This has now been adopted experimentally in Swindon.
