Fined for SORN-ing an uninsured vehicle - is this correct?
I taxed my 4x4 last January for five months, then put it off the road and swapped insurance on to a Focus. In June received tax renewal as it had been on the drive for six months (still taxed) and sent back the SORN to inform the DVLA. One month later I received a £100 fine for not having the vehicle insured when being SORNed. Is this correct?

Yes. Unless a vehicle is on SORN it has to be continuously insured. You admit, the 4x4 was not on SORN and was not insured from January. Basically you spent money taxing it when you should have saved money SORNing it.
