Speed bumps are damaging my house - what can I do?

Three years ago speed bumps were installed in the road through our village, one outside my house. Cracks have appeared outside the upstairs window and internally all round the window, and dust and dirt are being blown in onto the sill and ceiling. This has only occurred in the last two years in a 60-year-old property.

My insurance company's surveyor, with the aid of Google and photographs (no visit), said the cracking was due to shrinkage and was purely superficial. He further remarked that he had never heard of speed bumps damaging a property. Do you know where I might find some substantiating incidents?

Get a structural engineer in to record the tremors and assess the damage, then sue the council for the damage. You will be amazed at how quickly those speed humps will be removed.

Speed humps wreck the tyres and suspension of cars, leading to crashes, and the earthquakes from vehicles passing over them destroy the substructure of roads and damages adjacent walls and buildings.
