Received a ticket in a supermarket car park - what can I do?

I have just received a parking ticket from a supermarket car park. I called in on Saturday morning and left within fifteen minutes, and then visited again later the same evening. In between these visits I went to Ely and had lunch using my credit card. They show pictures of my car arriving at 9.02 and leaving in the dark at 19.37. There are notices on display warning of penalties for overstaying the ninety-minute period. The paper sent to me is headed "Civil Parking Charge" and, in the terms and conditions, states that there is “reasonable cause to believe an offence has been committed”.

This is now subject to a new law that makes the keeper of the vehicle liable for unpaid parking charges, but gives three stages of appeal. First to the issuer of the charge, second to POPLA and third to the Small Claims Track of the County Court. In your case it’s clear-cut. You did not overstay the ninety minute time period. The fault is with the CCTV system. However, if the notices state “no return the same day” then I see no alternative other than to pay up. More at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/private-parking-penalties/
