I have over 40 incident-free years of driving behind me, and for the past six and a half years I've been driving a small campervan, no larger than some mpv's. I have now moved onto a caravan, albeit a small folding type, but even so it has opened my eyes to the extra problems of towing.

My concern is that any driver can hitch up to a 'van up to 30 feet in length and go on the highway without any training or test of competence. The only legal requirements seem to be that the towing limit of the car is not exceeded and that there are approved mirrors fitted.

Given the ever-increasing requirements put on drivers and cars to meet safety standards I find this incredible?
