Is it worth changing from one old car to another?
My girlfriend has a 2003 Renault Clio 1.2 Billabong, which is starting to cost more and more each year to maintain. We would probably only be able to match the amount that the Clio's worth to buy a new car (the Clio has no history and a couple of small dents). Would it be worth swapping the car for something else given the small budget and if yes what would you suggest (cheap running costs are a must)?

Absolutely not. You will inevitably lose money on the trade and anything you can swap it for will probably have even more problems.
