Why does my BMW cut out?

Today my BMW 3 Series cut out four times as I was reducing speed and changing down the gears. I wondered if it was due to the heat?

The car restarts as you bring the clutch back up, although where I've spotted it in time I've pressed the start button and it's fine. Any ideas why this might happen?

Will be a dried out electrical contact somewhere. Diagnostics might be able to pinpoint it.
