New BMW 330d or used M3 - which would you buy?

I am thinking of replacing my 2001 BMW 530d with either the new 330d or a used 2008/2009 M3 saloon. I do 20,000 miles a year of motorway commuting mixed with sporty rural driving at weekends. Which would you recommend as a better all rounder for a keen driver?

I'd go for an E90/E92 335i manual or a current model F30 328i, but the 335i is a lot quicker.
