Bought a used car from a dealer, but it keeps braking down - can I demand a refund?
We brought a 2001 Volkswagen Polo two months ago from a dealer. After one month it broke down with a clutch problem, we informed the dealer and he said that they could fix it at a price, but we would have to get it to them; this wasn't an option so we paid £200 for the repair and then wrote them a letter complaining about our dissatisfaction.
Since then the car has broken down again, this time with the engine cutting out due to an immobiliser problem. I would just like to get my money back now as these problems keep happening, where do I stand legally?

2001 is 12 years old so this must have been a cheap car, certainly less than £2000, probably less than £1000. This limits the dealer liability to what can be "reasonably expected" of a cheap 12 year old car sold for a mere 10 per cen tof its original list price.
