Cam belt/chain making strange noises

I purchased a used 2010 Volkswagen Golf last month, which is still covered by its dealer warranty. I have had it inspected by a local garage after it started making noises when the ignition was switched on and they have advised that there may be an issue with the timing belt and suggest that I have it changed before it damages the engine.

I have checked the warranty small print and the timing belt is covered if it fails. Should I make them aware of the potential problem? Also, does my car have a timing chain or belt?

A TSI 1.4 or 1.6 will be timing chain. a 1.4 16v is belt. I would certainly return the car to the dealer and ask them to replace the belt/chain.
