Noisy Ford Mondeo - what's the cause?

My 2008 Ford Mondeo is making a humming noise at the back. The frequency of the noise increases with speed. Tyres are Goodyear 215/55 R16s. Is this road noise or something more serious?

Might be the tyres. Might be wheel bearings. If the tyres are below 4mm, then probably the tyres.
