Has automatic engine cut-off technology, as used on golf buggies, been used on cars?
Petrol engined golf buggies switch off when the footbrake is applied and automatically restart when the accelerator is pressed. Has this technology been used on cars?

About 30 per cent of new cars are now fitted with stop/start systems. It gets them better economy and hence lower taxable CO2 in the EC tests, but not so good in real life and can be very irritating.
