Why don't people support their local car dealers?

IB asks you how Drive the Deal can offer better terms than his local dealer. At the same time I read in a local paper that a well-established and respected local dealer, Nidd Vale in North Yorkshire is in administration. I am all for getting the best deal, particularly in these testing times, but would suggest that it is not in our interests to lose dealers such as this one.

I'm with you and have made that point many times, but unfortunately people are hard-pressed these days and if they can save £2000 - £4000 on a new car they will not forgo that to keep their local dealer in business. All DtD cars come from dealers anyway. Maybe not your local dealer, but still, by definition, someone's 'local' dealer.
