Which family car to replace my Saab 9-5 Aero?

My Saab 9-5 Aero 2.3 HOT turbo is 10 years old and I need to replace it. This is the fourth Saab I have had and they have suited me very well. They have all been high quality, high performance cars that have been a joy to drive and have had a gentlemanly feel to them without being flashy. I am looking for a secondhand year-old to 18-month-old car. I need a four-door car with enough room for three grandchildren in car seats in the back. I don't like German cars and my family forbids a Volvo. What can you suggest?

The Ford Mondeo 2.0 SCTI 240. Test and video here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/ford/ford-mondeo-2.../

Engine-wise that's actually the closest to your Saab High Output Turbo, but the Mondeo rides, handles and generally goes far better.

My daughter and son-in-law are looking for a medium-sized, family hatchback, SUV or Estate. It needs to take three child seats in the middle row. Sadly, a big Land Rover will not fit in their street.
