Why don't supermarkets introduce herringbone-style parking?
I am that rare male that likes shopping and, in particular, visiting supermarkets. They are nearly always pleasant experiences spoilt by the business of parking the vehicle, loading up the groceries and driving away. It became so irritating that a year or so ago I mounted a campaign to see the introduction of herringbone style parking in all the large supermarkets. I wrote to all the major superstores and other organisations and newspapers (including the DT) but received polite but negative replies saying that the present system is preferable.

I agree with you and wrote about this before. Herringbone parking does not take up more space because the runways can be narrower. But it does require cars to be parked nose-in and reversed out, or (with the herringbone the other way round) reversed-in and forward out. Some drivers can't get their heads around that and will attempt to reverse into a space designed for forward entry.
