What is causing the rattle on our Alfa 147?
We have a 2-litre Alfa 147 Twin-Spark Lusso, bought new in March 2004. It's the most reliable car we've ever owned (we had 13 BMWs before). The mileage is only just over 48,000 and we'd like to keep it as long as it's OK. At the moment it seems to drive as well as when it was new, but it does have a pronounced rattle somewhere in the rear when driven on our Isle of Wight roads, which consist mostly of potholes.

A reliable Alfa 147 sounds like heaven. But will need a timing belt, water pump, tensioner and small pulleys change, and it does need those bushes looked at by an independent Alfa specialist. You may find one here: good-garage-guide.honestjohn.co.uk/directory/searc.../
