Why aren't there more recommendations for petrol-driven cars?

I often read the so-called ‘Best Buys’ in magazines like ‘What Car’ but more often than not the recommendation is for a diesel. I shall drive no more than 8000 miles a year and, given your advice about the various problems that can occur with low mileage diesel engines, I would like to see more recommendations for petrol-driven engines. Personally, I am interested in the Audi / BMW / Jaguar automatic group of cars.

Depends how you are going to drive the car. Repeated short suns from cold - electric. Mixture of short runs from cold and longer runs - petrol hybrid. Some short runs from cold and some longer runs, but no more than 10,000 miles a year total - petrol. Big mileage of over 15,000 miles a year - diesel. The new Lexus IS300h at £30,000 with free annual tax might interest you.
