Will the Porsche Cayenne stop-start system damage the battery or DPF?
A friend is purchasing a Porsche Cayenne diesel with a stop-start fuel saving cut-out facility. Firstly, does this rapidly destroy a battery (with all the re-starts)? Secondly, as a diesel with a DPF, will all these stops clog a DPF rather rapidly?

Heat sensors stop it switching off when the turbo is too hot and monitors on the charge in the battery stop it switching off when the battery is too weak. The best system is Mazda's i-stop with i-eloop that uses a capacitor to run the car's systems during the stops, but even that will not switch off the engine if the turbo is too hot.
