Does the Ford Fiesta ST have a known problem with windscreen glare?

Having fallen out of love with a Clio Gordini Renaultsport, and needing a little more space than my MINI John Cooper Works, my husband was rather excited to see your video test of the Fiesta ST and, having sourced one on a rainy April day, signed on the dotted line and took delivery in July. What he is amazed about that nobody picked up on is the awful, even dangerous and distracting glare on the windscreen coming from the dashboard and centre console.

Ford says it spends millions designing its vehicles and there is nothing to discuss, and the dealers he has taken it to all say its normal. We recently drove down some county lanes with sun shining through the overhead tree canopy and to say it was like a lighting storm is an understatement. At one point, when confronted by a van coming in the opposite direction, he was totally blinded to the extent that I had to stand outside the car and direct him. I thought that walking in front of a vehicle was a thing of the past. I would be grateful of your advice as to whether this was a issue with your test car and if with you can suggest a treatment we can use to overcome the problem. Apart from that, with the 215PS Mountune upgrade, it's a great car.

We drive around 100 different cars a year in all weather conditions. So many suffer some form of dashboard reflection in the screen that we train our brains to ignore them. If you look through the reflection you brain doesn’t “see” it and it doesn't bother you. If you look for it, then, as in your case, it does. If you find you simply can't ignore it, then cover the dash with black felt or wear polarising sunglasses. If there is still a problem, have your eyes examined for the onset of cataracts.
