Is it possible to negotiate on a 2.0-litre Mazda MX-5 Sport?

I have read your advice online about buying and selling cars, which is a process I do not enjoy. However I am keen to buy a Mazda MX-5 sports car before I get too old to enjoy one and will need to part-ex my Fiesta. I have test driven a 2007 M-5 2.0i Z Sport with 35,000 miles on sale at a local garage priced at £8495. My Fiesta is a 2009 1.4 petrol 5-door Titanium with 34,000 miles and in good condition. I am the second owner. I’ve been offered £5495 for mine so the cost to switch is £3000. This is a bit more than I was budgeting to pay and I know I can look at other models, say a 1.8, that could be cheaper but I do not want to approach too many garages during my quest.

The 2.0 MX-5 Sport is considerably quicker than the 1.8 and much more fun to drive. Yes, you may be able to negotiate a better price. Check the comparative asking prices using www.honestjohn.co.uk/used-prices/

A great sports car. Incredibly nimble. Responsive steering. Easy to live with day to day. Comparatively inexpensive to run. Roof is easy to fold down.
