Car damaged after high winds blew over road sign - what can I do?
I was driving to Lincoln on 6 December when a temporary sign for the market detached itself from the mounting and wrapped round the front of my car. I took photos of the damage and rang the council to register a claim.
Some weeks later, after I had got an estimate for the damage, I got an e-mail from the council solicitors denying responsibility as there were strong winds in the area and it was therefore "an act of God". The solicitors won't move on this issue, do you have a precedent which I can quote?

Unfortunately here they have a strong Act of God defence and can prove it. Your counterclaim would be negligence in the manner in which the sign that hit your car had been secured, but you would have to prove that and I can't see how you can.
