My MOT expired whilst I was on holiday and I've been fined - can I appeal?
I was stopped by Essex police yesterday advised that my MOT certificate had expired on a week earlier, and I was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £60.00. I explained that I had been out of the country on holiday and returned that morning, and was on my way home from Harwich where the car had been left for the past 12 days. Obviously I was technically driving without an MOT but I had not been aware it would be out of date on my return. Do you think it is worth appealing through the court or is this only likely to mean I will have a bigger fine to pay?

No. The only way you could have been legal would have been if you were travelling to a prearranged MoT appointment, which you weren't.
