Which S-Max engine is best?

We are thinking of trading our Volkswagen Golf Plus for a one year old Ford S-Max. It'll mainly do running around with a longer trip once a week on average. We like Titanium trim, but are unsure which engine to go for. Ideally we want to maximise economy.

1.6 petrol EcoBoost 150. For ultimate economy, the 1.6TDCI 115. I've had no trouble with these, but "running around" might cause DPF problems.
