Which economical diesel for £7500?
I need to replace my 2003 Clio DCI with a larger car to accommodate my expanding family. I do 35,000 miles a year, 90% of that motorway. Therefore, fuel economy to roughly match the 60mpg I am getting from the Clio is a must, as well as cruise control. I am primarily interested in an estate but would also consider a large family hatchback. Budget is £7,500.

Pushing for ultimate economy could lead to repairs and replacements, for example all VAG 4 cylinder diesels need a new timing belt every 60k miles, Ford/PSA diesels every 80k miles. I'd go for a chain cam KIA cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6CRDI that should give 50 - 55mpg, depending how you drive.
