Driving in Europe - should I take an old car?
Two years ago I bought a new Mercedes-Benz S350L, which I cherish. Problem is when I leave it in public car parks etc. I worry about dings and scratches from other drivers. I am going on a driving holiday to France and Italy and have been wondering whether to buy something like an old BMW 3 Series touring in the hope that I could sell it on my return without losing too much money. Would this make sense?

No, because you will need to service the car properly before the journey, in particular the cooling system, then, when you get back, the trade will be filling up with part-exchanges and de-fleetings which they can't shift prior to Christmas, so values will be down.
