Do you need to carry all documents to drive in France?
My sister in-law has just returned from a trip to France and saw repeated signs in service areas stating that failure to have insurance documents available for inspection would result in a 3700 Euro fine and/or confiscation of the car. Is this correct?

In France you have to carry all documents for the car, including the insurance certificate, the V5C and the MoT certificate, and they all have to be the originals.
