I was taken to court 18 months ago for having an illegal plate (they said because it was metal it was illegal). The case was dropped because my plate is EU standard, equivalent to BS standard. A year later I am being hounded by police and now am told the font is illegal. I have read the traffic act 2001 and it says when EU standard is applied the font must be similar to the BS standard Charles Wilson font, on the other hand it says the Charles Wilson Font is mandatory.

My plate is really clear and nigh on the same (SAM 95). This is not clear cut because the CPS and the police admitted in court they were unaware of any EU standard being legal in UK. The issue is only about the font. I would add that I had to go to trial on three occasions and the CPS had a barrister (I defended myself). It resulted in the case being dropped after three days in court and I received an apology, yet they are now back on my case.
