Buying a used family SUV/estate - what would you recommend?

I'm looking for a workhorse estate/suv that can handle 18,00 miles a year for five years, for around £16,000. At this budget I think I'm probably looking at cars from 1-3 years old - the ideal would be a BMW 320d estate but I suspect with my budget that its going to be too old for me to run for another five years. What do you recommend?

If you can find a Mazda6 2.2 Skyactiv D Tourer, preferably the 150, and preferable SE-L spec, grab it.
