Commuter car for expanding family - what do you recommend?

I am about to start a 130 mile round trip commute and have only recently passed my driving test. I am also expecting a baby, so ideally would like a small manual family car with a good sized boot, that's not too expensive for a new driver to insure and can handle the commute. What do you recommend?

KIA Venga, because it's more upright for getting in and out and lifting babies in and out, has plenty of room, and has just been facelifted.
