Why does my car have two registration dates?

I recently purchased a used Ford Mondeo (2006) and on the logbook the first registration is 07/03/2006, while the the first UK registration is 24/11/2006. There is a "Guernsey" address stamped in the Service Portfolio. Where was it in those eight months?

Guernsey. It was probably a rental car, imported to the UK VAT free after six months on the island. Used to be common.
