Where can I get cheap insurance for my 17-year-old son on a Ford Ka?
My 17-year-old son is about to take his driving test. I have a Space Wagon so obviously it would be impossible to insure him on that. I am looking to buy him a small runaround, but the insurance quotes are really expensive. I have seen people complaining on websites that they are getting quoted £2000 for a 17-year-old. I wish I was quoted this. I am looking to buy him a 2002 Ford Ka and the lowest insurance quote I have received is £6200! What am I doing wrong?

The Ka should be cheap to insure, although even the cheapest insurance cars will always be expensive if you're 17 and newly qualified to drive. We'd suggest using an insurance comparison website. Things that will help make insurance cheaper are only going for Third Party only (although this means you aren't covered for fire or theft), increasing the excess, only doing a low mileage per year and keeping the car in a garage or on a driveway overnight. Easy to drive and economical. Based on the Fiat 500 but handles much better. More room in rear than 500.
