Short life of low profile tyres, is there an alternative solution?

My Mazda 2 1.5 (2011) Sport has just been through it's latest MOT test and I was advised that three of it's tyres were perished. The car has done under 15,000 miles and I'm rather disappointed with this outcome. I hate the low profile wheels and tyres and wondered whether a smaller wheel and tyre would work with with this car?

You'll be on 16" alloys with 195/45 R16 tyres. You could improve the ride quite a bit by switching to 15" with 185/55s that were standard on the 1.3TS2. You might find a used set from a parts specialist rescued from a wreck. You have to 'disclose' the switch to your insurer.
