Automatic or manual - which is best for towing?

I am looking to buy a Land Rover Discovery to tow a trailer and two horses in all weathers and conditions. Is a manual or automatic gearbox preferable for this sort of task?

Hard to find a manual. The advantage of an auto is no heavy wear of the clutch on take-off, particularly when towing in tricky situations or backing up the horse-box.
