My Volkswagen Touran's ESP light is on - what should I do?

My Volkswagen Touran has the ESP dashboard indication on and the ESP button lit up all the time. What is my best first move for this?

Have you taken the car to a Volkswagen dealer or specialist garage? It sounds like there could be a fault with the ESP which won't affect the way the car drives, but means it may not work properly. It may just be a simple software issue that needs fixing, but the only way to find out is to get it on a diagnostics machine.
