What's the best hot hatch for £6000?

I'm looking at buying a reliable sporty'ish hatchback with average/good fuel economy. I have £6000 to spend. Any suggestions?

An old-shape Ford Fiesta 2.0ST up to 2008 is good fun. Fairly harsh, but very responsive. MINIs and Peugeot 207 and Citroen DS3 1.6THP 150s aren't brilliantly reliable. VAG chain cam 1.2 and 1.4TSI engines are becoming a bit of a liability, especially the Twinchargers.
