Toyota iQ gearbox failure
I have a Toyota iQ bought new in November 2009. It has done 28500 miles. The gearbox has recently developed a fault where it grinds changing between 2nd and 3rd. Apparently the synchromesh has gone. I have a full Toyota service history.
Toyota garage quoted £2700 to repair. They have reduced this to £1300 with some "goodwill" from Toyota, although it isn't a fixed quote so may be more.
If it was a different make I probably wouldn't be so put out, but Toyota make the reliability of their cars a major selling point - the latest advert says they should be "used and abused". I have used but not abused my car and now have the worst mechanical fault of any car I have owned in 30 years.
I have made it quite clear to Toyota that I don't think this is acceptable on such a low mileage car.
The question is, what if anything can I do about it? I understand Toyota have been quite helpful with issues on early model clutches.

The earliest manual iQ had the same transmission fault as C1, 107 and Aygo because they have the same engines and transmissions. This was quickly fixed, so it only affects the earliest cars. More in the entries at www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar Your car is almost 6 years old so almost out of any SOGA liability. I'd take the offer.
