Which size wheels on a Volkswagen Tiguan?

I am getting a new Volkswagen Tiguan. The standard wheels and tyres are 17-inch wheels with 235/55 tyres. I could get 16-inch wheels with 215/65 tyres. Which do you recommend please?

The 17-inch with 235/55 tyres should not be too bad. In theory the 65 profiles should cushion sharp bumps more effectively but how well they do that will depend on the pressures and if the pressures are too low the handling will be very woolly.
