Does a car registered in Northern Ireland need to be re-registered for use in England?

Are there any problems at all associated with buying at a UK auction a car described as a Northern Ireland import? Would it need to be re-registered in the UK?

Northern Ireland is part of the UK, but the plates are distinctive usually 6-digit, with three letters and three numbers with Z and W in them.
