Advice on Nissan X-Trail?

I am emigrating to Australia and need to buy a car when I get there. I'm really close to signing a contract on a Nissan X-Trail. A family member just advised me to stay away from Nissan and I then looked at some customer reviews. Generally not good. Auto box issues - irrelevant I am looking at manual. Sat nav issues - big problem. Noisy engine in the petrol - irrelevant as I am looking at diesel. Your advice would be most welcome.

The 1.6 diesel engine is a Renault unit and, while it has been very reliable as a 130PS single turbo, the twin turbo 160PS might be a different matter. If I was you and didn't need 7 seats I'd get a Mazda CX-5 2.2 Skyactiv, and if I needed 7 seats either a Kia Sorento 2.2 manual or a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 manual.
